Gears
As a normal hobbist in photography, I did not have much gears. Take a look on what I’m currently have.
Bodies
- Canon EOS 40D My first SLR body. Has only used it about a month and pretty much every photo on this site so far was taken using it. Very good AF in AI Servo mode (which tracks bodies as they move around the focus area) and centre-point AF is second to none. Combined with grip makes it more stable in my hand.
Current Lenses
- Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM The newest family member of my gears and the first L lens. Since I travel often, I’ve decided to put on hold of getting 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and went for 17-40mm f/4 L USM. Image and build quality are superb and the price was just right. I am using this lens full time along with my 50mm.
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Cheaper prime with ability to provide good image quality at low light. It is very sharp at f/2.8 and beyond. It is slightly sharper than even then Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens. This is one good low-light indoor photography lens plus it is cheap.
Previous Lens(es)
- Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM [SOLD] Somewhat wide angle lens, I find it alway mounted on my 40D. Seriously thinking to get better glass right now but after some thought, better to stick with this and learn more before spending big on additional lenses. Oh, reason using this because I can still use it if later decided to switch to full frame camera. 1D MkIII anyone?
Wishlists
- Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM General purpose lens that covers a very useful focal distance. The one downside is that it’s quite narrow on my 1.6 crop bodies, but apart from that the range is useful, and both the image stabilizer, optical/build quality and saturation are superb. Also has mind-blowingly fast AF.

- Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Loved the color, image quality and sharpness. Nothing much to say except I WILL GET THIS BEAST!
Accessories
- Canon Speedlite 580EX II & 430EX Got the 580EX II a while ago, and works great so far.
- Phottix Battery Grip This is the item that I bought after I got my camera. Seems like I made a right choice buying this as the added weight makes my 40D more stable in my hand. Always mounted on the camera. Combined with 580EX II it got quite a burden though.
- Kata R-467 Rucksack The DR467 is a very versatile, extremely well-built rucksack and I highly recommend it to anybody that needs a backpack. When I found out that Kata also make bullet-proof armour I went right ahead and ordered one. The big size fits my 16″ laptop, 40D mounted with 28-135mm, 50mm f/1.8, 580 EX II, charger and other accessories makes me loving it each day. It does gets heavy especially with laptop inside. But the chest and hip strap compensate it by reducing heaviness.
- SanDisk Extreme III CF Cards (2×4GB) I trust Sandisk more than other Brand so it doesn’t really weird that I bought it right? Besides, Sandisk CF is the best made CompactFlash cards by a mile and very quick. Pricey but worth it.
- Phottix Wired/Wireless Remote Shutter Specifically for night shot. I often found myself in a good spots at night but did not have the skill to shot. Bought this stuff to practise shooting with remote flash.
- AIPO Dry Cabinet 48EX Dry cabinet is like a mandatory thing to have. I know, I can just buy silica gels or thirsty hippo but it doesn’t make any sense to use cheap stuff to protect your “riban-riban” investments. Bought from a merchant on Photomalaysia.com
